Background

Claire has so far practised predominantly in crime but also has experience in civil matters and is looking to expand her civil practice. Her attitude to all aspects of her work assures a friendly, efficient and approachable service is offered to both lay and professional clients.

Claire graduated in Modern History at Oxford University in 2000. After some time spent travelling she undertook a Post-graduate Diploma in Law at the College of Law in Guildford before studying the BVC at BPP in London. Claire achieved a Very Competent at Bar School and was positioned 35th out of approximately 250 students as published in The Times. She was called to the Bar in October 2003 and was offered a tenancy at Wilberforce Chambers in Hull in December 2004 following successful completion of pupillage. Claire will join Academy Chambers as a tenant in July 2005.

Crime – Magistrates Court

Claire has appeared in the Magistrates court on behalf of both the prosecution and defence and has dealt with the following matters:

* First appearances, PTRs, Committals, Bail Applications, Trials and Sentencing.
* Youth court matters from first appearance through to trial and sentencing.
* Prosecutions on behalf of Customs and Excise.
* Prosecutions on behalf of Securicor.

Crime – Crown Court

Claire has been instructed in the Crown Court for Sentencing, Bail Applications and Appeals against Conviction and Sentence.

Civil

Claire has dealt with Small Claims Hearings, Default and Summary Judgments, Infant Settlements and drafting advice on the merits of personal injury claims.
